Lawn Aeration & Overseeding

Core aeration is the single most underrated lawn care service in Coastal Georgia. Most homeowners think their lawn is thin because it needs more fertilizer — but the real problem is usually compacted soil that blocks water and nutrients from getting to the roots. Pulling 2-3 inch soil cores out of the lawn opens up channels for air, water, and nutrients to reach the root zone, and the lawn thickens dramatically over the following weeks.

A&P Lawn Care & More runs aeration on warm-season grasses (Bermuda, Centipede, St. Augustine, Zoysia) during the active growth window from mid-April through early June. Aerating during dormancy or peak summer stress hurts the lawn — timing matters as much as the service itself. We use commercial core aerators that pull plugs deep enough to actually relieve compaction, not the rented machines that only break the surface.

Overseeding pairs naturally with aeration. For warm-season lawns with thin spots, we can plug or sprig-overseed Bermuda or Zoysia after aeration to fill in. For homeowners who want green color through winter dormancy, we offer perennial ryegrass overseeding in October-November — the ryegrass takes off in cool weather and naturally dies back when Bermuda comes out of dormancy in spring.
